    Builds

Things people built with AI in an hour.

    Teachers

AI Hour is free. There’s nothing to pay and no AI Hour account to set up, and the free versions of the AI apps are enough. Here’s how to run it with your class: students build something with AI, then show it and vote. No coding needed.

    Before the day

    1. Check your school’s rules. Ask whether students can use AI apps, whether you need permission notes, and whether the apps are blocked on the school network.
    2. Choose an app for your class. Each app sets its own age rules.
Which AI app suits each age
Under 13An adult uses the AI app. Build together on the big screen, or put a parent helper with each group.
      13 to 17ChatGPT, with a parent’s permission. Send a note home first.
18 and overAny app, including Claude.
Any ageGemini, if your school’s Google accounts include it.

Claude is 18+, so students under 18 can’t have their own accounts. Rules vary by country and change over time, so check ChatGPT and Claude.

    3. Get devices ready. Install ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude, or use the website. Sign in before the day so the hour goes on building. The free versions are enough.
    4. Try it yourself. Build something small, press Share, then open the link in a private window. If it asks you to sign in, students’ links won’t work either. For a practice run, start a 3-minute AI Hour.
    5. Give a 10-minute intro. Show how to describe an idea, try the result and ask for changes. Remind students that AI makes mistakes and that personal details stay out of chats.

Make a simple quiz game about volcanoes with big buttons. I want to play it right here.

Add a score. Now make the questions harder.

    On the day

Allow 90 minutes: 60 to build, 5 to send links and up to 25 to show and vote. Short on time? Open Host controls and press Show and tell now when you’re ready.

    1. Open AI Hour on the classroom screen. Pick a theme, or write your own to suit your topic, then press Start building.
    2. Get everyone in. Students scan the QR code or type the code. First names or nicknames only. The timer waits for you.
    3. Press Start. Press Space to pause at any time.
    4. Walk the room. When the time’s up, students press Share in their AI app and paste the link into AI Hour.
    5. Show and vote. Go through the builds on the big screen. You can hide any build.

Students don’t need an AI Hour account. Names, links and screenshots are deleted 30 days after the session, unless a student ticks the box to send their build to the public Builds page, so tell your class whether to tick it. .
